diablo the sweetheart

meet the mis-named ragamuffin, diablo. we think he is around 2 or 3 years old and was surrendered due to allergies. if you like your cats big, fluffy and full of personality then you will surely fall in love with this guy.

for adoption info on diablo or to check out other adoptable kitties just head on over to the happy cat page.

ninja cat is stealthy

ever wonder why humans and cats have lived together for millenia? we didn't even know they were there!

panty raids and pussy cats

this is hilarious! cats rule.

"Dalton Rd residents had been left baffled when underwear left hanging on clothes lines and in laundry baskets began to disappear, prompting suggestions of a pervert burglar at prowl. But it was the six-year-old Cisco who had been leaping fences to get his paws on clothes including socks, swimmers, shirts, dresses - even dolls."

inter-species friendships rule

aw, poor turtle. try as he may he just isn't tall enough to plant a big, wet one right on the kitty's smacker. reminds me of the old saying, "love is blind, friendship closes its eyes."

we are pleased to announce the arrival of kirby to our monroe st. location. he is a big, brown and white tabby with a most distinguished looking blaze of white down his nose. he is very sweet and affectionate and likes to show off how handsome he is whenever he gets attention. if you would like to meet kirby just pop into the store or contact the happy cat club of madison.

don't let the cat outta the bag

the picture to the left may look cool but it is not the best way to transport a cat. it does make me wonder though, is the beer in the cat carrier?

another good tip is to feed your cat in his carrier, thus associating the carrier with yummy food and good feelings.

in unrelated news, check out this story on cat heaven, a rescue group and sanctuary for cats. it sounds a little crazy but i'm sure the cats are happy.

no smoking plz kthx

the progress on smoking bans around the country could be causing an unseen benefit - kitty's are getting healthier! so if you ever needed a reason to quit what better one than for the health of your pets?

smoke-free, now that's meow like it!

(sorry, I couldn't help myself. lol)

we get rayburn?

local radio guy, lee rayburn, did a very brave thing recently. he quit his job.

"my buddy at madcat (pet supplies) would probably let me stock the shelves for cat food if I get desperate," he joked.

madcat would like to publicly extend an offer of employment to mr. lee rayburn, friend of cats.

costumed cat lays in random objects - success!

this is a video from a japanese show where, literally, a costumed cat lays in random objects. i can imagine lucy would be quite good at this.

more robocats!

more robocats news. at least this one is pretty cute.

"The robo-cat is equipped with touch sensors that let it engage in such real-life feline behavior as purring, moving its legs when you rub its belly, and sleeping a lot. It will not, as far as we know, scratch your face or drag mice in." ......yeah, until the robot war starts. then you'll be lucky to escape with your eyeballs.

meteorologist cat

we mentioned this last week. thought you might enjoy a video. what a cute kitty! look out, charlie shortino - this guy's gunning for your job!

another shelter making the switch to no kill

the message of hope and compassion is spreading. the manatee county humane society is expanding it's reduced-fee spay and neuter clinic in efforts to move the shelter to no kill status by 2010.

here's the best part of the story: "A plumber, an electrician and other craftsmen have donated their services to build the clinic." it's just like nathan winograd says, trust the community and they will come through for you. to read up on or donate to the humane alliance, who provides training and funding for spay/neuter clinics across the country, click here.

to read more on the no kill movement and the history of sheltering pick up a copy of winograd's book, redemption, at any of our stores.

stuff on my cat

one of the best things about having cats is that they sleep a lot, and that affords us, their guardians, the perfect opportunity to pull pranks. we can pile random objects on them, put our glasses on them, put funny hats on their little heads, and even put other cats on them and they don't even care! to celebrate this wonderful part of human-cat bonding the gods of the interwebs brought us stuff on my cat, a site chock full of funny pics of cute cats with stuff on 'em. genius!

what kind of stuff do you put on your cat?

sammy the post office cat

they tried to kick him out for not paying federal taxes.....how silly. nobody ever complained about dewey the library cat or tama, japanese train station cat, so why would they look down on a furry postal worker? it's madcat's position that having cats around is always a good thing. this should ring especially true in a stressful place the post office. for a bit of a happy ending here's a an update on the story.

spayathons and weather cats

looks like the cats of hawaii are going to get a little nip and tuck from spayathon master mind jeff young, who has spayed and neutured "more than 160,000 animals" in his life. wow. that's....impressive? do you think there's a guinness record holder for that category? well if there is, jeff young is on the warpath to victory.

in other mews, a german cat decided it was time to pursue his dream of becoming a meteorologist. i wonder if his forecasts will all be in terms of how cold he is; "too cold. way too cold. stay-in-bed-cold. sit-next-to-heater-cold."

madison magazine "best of" voting

you didn't think you were done with voting for awhile, did ya? well get your "i voted" sticker back out because it's time to vote for madison magazine's "best of" poll! you can choose your favorite restaurant, radio personality, clothing store and even your favorite pet supply store! *wink wink nudge nudge*

make sure you fill out at least 25 of the categories or else your vote won't get counted. we don't want to have another gore/bush election on our hands here. we all know how that one ended.

lucy in the sky with catnip bananas

looks like everyone wants to be as cool our west side matriarch. "lucy" has been found to be the most popular cat name of 2008.

you can't blame them, though. a lot of super neat ladies have shared that awesome moniker over the years.....and even millenium!

good news for ping and his new family, bad news for all of us here. our favorite, crazy little guy went home yesterday to start a new, better life. good luck to you, ping! we will miss you and your goofy antics.

kenny!

we have a new happy cat at monroe st.! we call him kenny but as he matures he may prefer ken. so far he's been pretty quiet but his beautiful face and wise owl eyes sure do draw you in. if you would like to meet kenny just drop on by the store or contact the happy cat club of madison.

2009, here we come!

there's no better way to start off a new year than with cats singing auld lang syne.

warning: this is a bit insane and may cause fits of hilarity.
