california abuse laws

california is leading the pack again when it comes to animal welfare legislation. remember the city-wide bans on declawing? now the state legislature is considering enacting an online state-registry of convicted animal abusers, similar to those already in use for sex offenders.

Good for California! My cats don't scratch MY furniture. That's what THEIR furniture if for! If people could only realize that cats need to scratch and given adequate places to do so, they will prefer them. It's a kind of marking behavior and my 4-legged kids are happy to mark what is really theirs.

California is leading the way. I sincerely hope all the Sates follow. Animal abuse deserves so much more stigma than it gets. And so many people here are unaware of the reality of declawing. On this page there is an introduction to the facts on cat declawing. Every cat owner should know the implications of it.
